MY mother spoke to me about prayer in these terms: “Some prayer, some power. More prayer, more power. Much prayer, much power.” Add to that these words from Martyn Lloyd Jones: “Man is at his greatest and highest when upon his knees he comes face-to-face with God.” You have as much or as little of God’s power in your life as you’re willing to pray to receive. “God is no respect of persons” (Acts 10:34). So how much God’s power do you want? You won’t have one ounce more than you’re willing to pray to receive. A prayerless Christian is a powerless Christian.
Jesus did not teach His disciples to preach or how to raise money, but He did teach them to pray. He began where we must begin: “Our Father in heaven” (Matt. 6:9). When you come to our Almighty God, you come to the God who loves you as your Father. He can make a way when there seems no way, and He cannot fail. Our Father says to you, “Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need” (Heb. 4:16). He can heal your marriage and your body. He can break the iron yoke of addiction around the neck of your son or daughter. He can move the mountains of impossibilities.
Our Father can calm your troubled sea and transform your desert into a fountain of living water. He can supernaturally transform your finances and give blessings where you have never seen blessings before. Because He will plant you by rivers of water, your leaf shall not wither, and whatever you do shall prosper (Ps.1:3) The new opportunity that is right in front of you, He can cause to explode with possibilities.
